Salish Sea Diamonds

Been a while since I posted anything. Came across this photo as I was housekeeping my hard drive. From my trip out to Friday Harbor on the San Juan Islands last year. Took this from the Washington State Ferry out of Anacortes. I saw this fishing trawler just heading into the sparkling sunlight breaking through the mist. The light out in those islands is amazing, you just feel better in it. I thought this translated to B&W really well. It’s all about the light.

My brother has a cafe out there so if you ever get the chance stop by Mike’s Cafe and Wine Bar in Friday Harbor (and tell him how much you like his logo- shameless plug).

lime kiln lighthouse

Beautiful old lighthouse in Lime Kiln Point State Park on San Juan Island, Washington. I was out visiting my brother Mike and got to paddle with the guides from Discovery Sea Kayaks. Definitely a bucket list item! This section of the Haro Strait is like the daily commute for the Southern Resident Pod of Orca Whales (mostly in the summer) plus seals, dolphin, eagles, starfish, etc. all on crystal clear water. Really great paddle in one of my favorite places.

While there I saw lots of historic photos that I found really interesting; so for this iphone shot I was trying out a new app called Mexture to get that same look. Its kind of addicting to play around with, but easy to overdo it.
